Artist's Description
It only seems fitting that this found it's way into my portfolio. Being half Italian and half Japanese, there are a number of historical events and locations that shape who I am and how I came to be. I was recently told stories of my Grandfather's trip to America and his travels and arrival at Ellis Island and those stories inspired this piece. The background is one of very few remaining documents from the passenger log reports, the foreground is a sketch of Ellis Island with acrylic overlay and I used digital imaging to layer the two.

This concept is great. As an amateur genealogist, I can totally appreciate the historical significance of this. Fantastic work.

I'll go along with the previous comment here, Jeff, and add that I think Painting the "Portrait of Ellis Island" on the form was a great and successful idea. The tone, the color, is perfect.

This is wonderful, Jeff. So many fine people came through Ellis Island. Your work is original and the concept profound.
